O frabjous day!
It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough all the components of my heart will be dog (via Wood Signs - Pet / Animal)

A poem for the day

Brett Garcia Myhren - “Telemarketer”

Brett Garcia Myhren

TELEMARKETER

I’m reading on the couch
when she calls, asks for me by name.
I smile at her scripted intimacy,
imagine her cubicle with photos of pets,
the long bend of light
on her lacquered nails.

“Listen to this,” I reply,
David kissed the soft inner banks
of women’s thighs
.”

“Pardon?”

“Oh, there’s more,” I say,
Thighs like loamy earth
that cup the rivers, or lilies
blooming in rose and mint
.”

“Is this a bad time for you, sir?”

“Is it for you?
Tell me something,” I insist.
“Tell me anything.”

A quiet unfolds between us
as though we’d spent our breath
on withering arguments
or lost it
in the scented air of sweat.

Finally she says,
“I’m in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Outside, leaves are turning
in the cold.”

Throw the Ball!

From the comments:

But after Fry and Laurie took on Jeeves and Wooster, I have trouble imagining anyone else in those roles, too. Which meant I had Hugh Laurie as Batman in my head while reading this.

Which doesn’t quite work. Laurie is brilliant, certainly, but not in the general shape for fisticuffs.

It’s amazing how pop culture so readily appropriates and displaces the characters in our heads. I can’t decide if this is Bale and Caine or Laurie and Fry playing Batman and Alfred as Jeeves and Wooster. Which is pretty brilliant.

I found this submission to the National Geographic Daily Dozen. This isn’t my photograph; someone named Colin Manuel took it. His caption reads:
“I caught this yak taking a sip from Namtso Lake in Tibet. After all the work getting into and around Tibet, my adventure was nearing its end. I hiked down to the lake for a quick personal shot and came back with a photo of this big guy. As serene and tranquil as the image is, the experience of framing it and clicking the shutter was even more so.”
